Playing Outdoors Everyday

Updated: Apr 25, 2022

Many people in the generations that came before us had the gift of uninterrupted outdoor play. Most importantly, the play was unstructured by adults and generally involved decision making that navigated risk taking. Children in years past were responsible for their safety in a way that created confidence and skillful self preservation.

The Natural Pedagogy Society was founded with the goal of increasing the perceived value of playing in the outdoors by providing more opportunities for families and their children to access the green spaces in their communities. Our Grassroots Outdoor Play programs offer interest based, outdoor play with elements of risk that we feel is critical to healthy development. Group Leads in GO Play programs are always assigned in pairs with at least one ECE. Our Leads are passionate about emergent curriculums and all groups focus on child led activities.

Child Development experts recommend at least 3 hours a day of outside play, the Natural Pedagogy Society aims to help families achieve this target while also raising funds for the creation of licensed childcare spaces. All GO Play program fees are applied to cover the costs of our programs and any left over funds are saved towards the purchase or lease of a property that is able to attain a license to operate full time childcare activities here on Vancouver Island. Join us in our pursuit of playing outdoors every single day to support early learning!
